The complexity of glycans parallels and sometimes even exceeds that of proteins and nucleic acids, which combined with their more cumbersome analytics and manipulation have long hampered their studies. Recent years have seen an explosion of both new technologies and functional insights in this interdisciplinary field, and these will be celebrated during this meeting, including talks from three most recent Biochemical Society Awardees. Invited speakers will cover topics across glycobiology, including glycan structure and function, analytics, biotechnological and medical applications, and advanced chemical biology methods. Conference highlights include parasite glycobiology, synthetic ‘precision tools’ for in vivo glycan function, biotechnological uses of glyco-active enzymes, and cutting-edge glycan analytics.

The Glycobiology GRC will unite researchers across disciplines and enable them to discuss, learn and challenge our current knowledge on all aspects of glycobiology. This includes, but is not limited to, understanding the biosynthesis and evolution of glycans, their complex roles in signaling and immunity, their involvement in a wide spectrum of diseases or the emerging new technologies that become available to study their structure and function. Translational achievements and developments in the domains of glycobiotechnology, and glycoinformatics and novel avenues for artificial intelligence that have the potential to transform glycosciences will also be explored.

World CDG Awareness Day is an annual event that provides international focus for patient groups and families living with CDG. It is an opportunity to raise awareness, influence change, promote timely disease diagnosis, and improve access to better standards of care and management. World CDG Awareness day is celebrated each year on May 16th - the birthday of Dr. Jaak Jaken who reported the first CDG patients in 1980.
